Ok so from what I can tell... according to forums on this stie, 2 980ti's can and also can't run 4k at 60fps. I am still a little befuddled. I was thinking about getting a second 980 ti and a 4k monitor with g-sync. I have read in articles by CNET, PCGamer, etc that 2x980 ti's will in fact run games at 60fps in 4k. but then I see in here where people are just cock sure that it can never happen.

So what I would love, is someone who isn't snarky, to provide ACTUAL information to help me decide. Possibly links to other articles that have tested this setup out. etc. What I don't want is the person who just wants to be negative, or the AMD fanboy, or NVIDIA fanboy, or the person who love to think they are God's gift to PC building even though they never have the build they want because they are always waiting for a part that is a year or two in the future and they refuse to settle for less.

I know this is a forum which means it is basically a breeding ground for people who love to see themselves type with one hand while patting themselves on the back with the other. But I did see a few opinions in this site that made me think people had access to real information. So I am hoping to hear something from them. Maybe someone who is already running a dual 980 ti set up. I am getting ready to dump $1200-$1400 more into this PC and I would like to know Im not totally wasting my money.

Realistically could 2x 980 ti SC ACX2.0 with 32gb of 2133 DDR4 ram, i7 5820k and 1200 watt of psu run 4k on either very high or ultra settings at 60fps? Especially thinking of a game like the Witcher 3 etc. Or should we all just wait until 2016 when NVIDIA has their High Bandwidth memory Cards out? Also I am not that worried about 144hz. I have a 1ms, 144hz gsync monitor and when games lock at 60 fps, or when they let me hit the full 144 fps, I notice close to no difference. There might be the absolute slightest smoothness increase, but not enough for me to wait for 4k to hit that mark.

thanks in advance for your time and opinions.

Your question has to do with gaming at 4K. Some of my observations and experience:

1-depends on the pc game. They are not all the same. No 2 games run exactly the same.
2-Reviews and live actual results may not be equal.
3-Not all 4K monitors are the same.
5-A 4K monitor at 60hz will produce a max of 60fps with proper connections.
6-No 2 machines run and play games the same.
7-All I can offer is my personal experience
8-60fps at low settings or 60fps on ultra game settings. So yes it is possible.
4K Monitor-27" Dell P2715Q
Video Card-EVGA GeForce GTX 980 04G-P4-2983-KR 4GB SC GAMING w/ACX 2.0
Game settings "high" not ultra high (some settings turned off, others turned up)
Game 1-Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain 45-60fps, solid fps...

It really depends on the settings par example on gta v there are too many settings not just high-ultra sliders or how much MSAA you put or if you enable MFAA in the control panel and things like that or the sliders on gta v... If you have the money wait for pascal which will be very 4K ready and sell your 980ti. But 2x980ti's can do 4K 60FPS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_is4rBDVIY*

or also see this https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=gtx+980+sli+ti+4k

*This vid has single 980ti benchmarks

I have not personally used the 980 ti, but I have two 980s in my system and i have never gotten below 60 fps on any game that I have played. Granted I do not typically play ridiculously graphically demanding games, but I get about 90-100 on fallout 4, 110-120 on borderlands 2, about 100 on tomb raider with tresefex. I am aware that games such as the witcher 3 are much more demanding than the games that i have just referenced, but if I am getting well above 60 fps on new games with a worse card, then I cannot imagine that you would get too far below 60 on any game.

Game 1-Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain 45-60fps, solid fps.
Game 2-Assassins Creed Syndicate 35-60fps, solid number here.
*I have yet to experience any lag with current settings on a 4K monitor of mine.

I have only played these 2 games on my new 4K monitor. When you ask the question that you did, you will get results all the way up and down. Yes, no, review say this, and a lot of hot air and BS from way too many folks. You can not believe everything you hear and read.

The problem with 4K video's is it has to be recorded in 4K, then uploaded at 4K, then you need a 4K monitor to view this video. Show me one youtube video I can look at? :) All the "4K" I see is uploaded to youtube at less than 4K. Youtube can not handle it yet.

Your answer depends on the hardware, the specific game, game settings, other related hardware, and the rest of your system and setup. Only a live actual trial will give the answer you are looking for. Or do your homework before you dive in :) Happy Holdiays!!

note: I have Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain record on 4K but uploaded to youtube at 1080 if you want to view.

@Preacherauron, it sounds like your goal is to play games absolutely maxed out, on a single 4K monitor at 60 Hz. I think you should wait for Pascal and get two 1080 Ti's in SLI. I only game on a 3440 x 1440 (60 Hz) display. I've never owned a 4K display, so I have no direct knowledge to impart. But I don't think you'll be able to max out all setting in 4K resolution, even with two 980 Ti's in SLI. And if you take my advice and wait for the new Pascal top-tier cards then you might as well wait to purchase a 4K monitor as well. There has been an incredible resurgence in both displays and solid state drive technology. A lot can happen between now and Q2 of 2016.
