Hi guys, i recently bought a Z97 Mobo and some 1866 DDR3 Ram Modules.
This is my background:

Pentium(R)
Pentium II
Pentium III
Pentium IV
Core i5 2nd Gen (Laptop)
Core i5 3rd Gen (Laptop)

So i never did any OC to any of my machines:
But now i want to do some Good Gaming (Maybe 4k)

I must to buy a processor, and i'm between the 4790 and the 4790k (Money is not a concern, but i could spend the 30$ difference buying a game).

Which one should i choose?

Solution
The i7-4790K has a higher stock clock(4.0/4.4) than the plain 4790(3.6)
It really does not need to be overclocked, but you are likely to get a better binned chip with the "K".
For $30, it is well worth it.

That said,
With Skylake now available, there is absolutely no question in my mind that a new build should be Skylake.
1. Prices for cpu, z170 motherboard and ddr4 ram are almost precisely the same.
2. 6600K has an estimated 5-10% performance improvement per clock over haswell.
Few games can use more than 2-3 cores. The extra hyperthreads of a i7 will go largely unused.
3. 14nm runs cooler, you get a decent overclock without the need for exotic cooling.
4. The Z170 chipset permits the use of much faster ssd devices on the...

Personally, I would get the k version. The price difference is nothing if money is not a concern... Besides, most games are $60-120 now :p

Overclocking a processor can improve the overall performance of a computer by 10%-30%. That's worth $30 bucks right? Plus the added value in overclocking can be a whole new something to do and learn about.

The i7-4790K runs at 4.0GHz (4.4GHz max turbo) instead of 3.5GHz (3.9GHz max turbo) - that's 0.5GHz higher. So the question is, is that extra clock speed worth the extra money? When I got mine, I took the point of view that if I were already spending £230 for the standard i7-4790, then I might as well spend the extra £20 for the faster version - as a percentage of the total cost of the system it's not much more ...

As has been said, gaming performance is generally determined by the GPUs ...

for the $30 dollar difference you should probably buy the 4790k as games like gta v bf4 witch hunter 3 and so on are becoming more demanding of the cpu as well it would be a better investment for the future and programs become more demanding so it will probably save you money in the future (i am a 4790k owner so a bit bias)
