Dual Band Wireless Range Extender
RE6500 v1.0.02 That's the extender. I try to use the 5ghz band because I get such a bad connection while im gaming. The first day or two using this extender was fine and then after that I can't even play with getting over 100 ping. I found that my wireless extender has a 5ghz option so im trying to explore that. I am on a iMac late 2009. It's a $80 dollar wireless extender and I was hoping it was going to fix my problems for gaming and even with the ethernet cable connected to my iMac it's still over 150 ping on any game. Please help.

If you are getting high ping times with a direct wired connection, that is as good as it gets. may be an issue between your extender and your router.

Your iMac may not be capable of connecting to a 5Ghz network, older devices typically won't.

Wireless extenders tends to not work real well even when everything else is perfect. They intentionally transmit a interfering signal back into the same radio channel this greatly reduces the performance.

Now I suspect a part of your problem is you did not place the device correctly.....since you can cable to with ethernet.

The placement needs to be in a area that you receive strong signal from the main router. It must also be able to send a strong signal to the area that does not get good signal from the main router. This tends to be 1/2 between the router and the PC.

Putting the device next to your pc or even in the same room most times will work poorly because the repeater will receive the same poor signal from your router and then retransmit it making it even worse. You may get a strong signal on your PC but the quality of the data will still be less than if you directly connected to the main router.

If moving the repeater to a different location does not help you likely will need to try a different technology. Most people try powerline network devices or maybe MoCA if you have coax tv wire in both location.
