Is the router compatible with the card and if it isn't please suggest alternatives.

The Card: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter
The Router: Netgear CG3000-2STATUS
CPU: Intel i7-6700
MOBO: Asus Z170-P D3
GPU: MSI R9 380 GAMING 4GB
RAM: G.SKILL 8GB(2x4)
SSD: SanDisk 120GB SSD
HDD: Seagate 2TB Desktop HDD
CASE: NZXT Noctis 450 Black
PSU: Corsair 750W, CS750M Gold Power Supply
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 Bit OEI

Yes your WiFi card and existing router are compatible except for wireless you'll only be able to use the 2.4GHz band.

This is because although the WiFi card is dual band (2.4GHz & 5GHz), the router is only single band (2.4GHz).

If dual-band is essential you need a dual band router. The 5GHz band is much less crowded and therefore less prone to interference from neighbouring routers. The downside of the 5GHz band however is that it's range is shorter than the range of 2.4GHz.

In view of the nature of your question, your other system specs are irrelevant.

If the opportunity arrises would it be better to just try and get an ethernet cable that reaches from my router to the pc like this one: ALOGIC 10M CAT5e Network Cable, Black
