My Computer Specs:
CPU: Intel Core 4130T Dual-Core with Hyper Threading
Processor: 2.9GHz no turbo 3MB
GPU: GTX 860m 2gb GDDR5
Memory: 8gb DDR3L 1600mhz (single channel)
OS: Windows 10 64bit
Storage: HDD 500gb

I dint want to say it but just in case it matters, my computer is an Alienware Alpha i3 model, i know i know ,"Alienware is garbage its better to build your own PC", well it was a gift so there is nothing i can do about that.

This is pretty much my first gaming computer, I've had it for a little less than 2 months and i want to get the most out of it in terms of performance and visual quality, and the multiple reviews of the alpha I've read and videos I've watched show that even the base i3 model should be able to outperform the PS4 with equal or slightly better graphical settings by a bit, but instead i feel like whenever i play new games like the Witcher 3 or shadows of mordor my computer struggles to keep on par with the PS4 instead of outperforming it. An example is the Witcher 3, according to reviews and videos i saw of the Alpha i3 playing the game it should be able to easily play it on Medium settings with 35-40 Fps and drops no lower than 30, but after spending hours tweaking the game i was barely able to get it to run at medium settings with 33-35 fps on average with drops as low as 26 when in towns and the boggy swamp areas ( this is just in the first Area, which is one of the smaller maps). From some sources i read the witcher 3 is locked at 30 fps with a combination of medium-high settings on the PS4 at least, but this is just one example on some other games that run at medium-high on consoles i have to go medium-low settings to get 40 fps.
I though after upgrading my RAM from 4gb to 8gb i would see a decent boost but i noticed almost no change after installing the extra RAM.I dont have unrealistic expectations for the alpha i know at best its an entry level gaming computer, i dont have any delusions of playing games like on Ultra with 60 fps or anything, i just dont wanna feel like instead of a gaming computer i just have another ps4 that can play a few more games.

Somehow i feel im not using the computer's full potential to play games, ive done some tweaking in the Nvidia Control Panel,Upgraded my RAM and my drivers but have seen little improvement. Since im new to computer gaming im hoping some fellow computer gaming enthusiasts who are much more knowledgeable than me give me can give some tips and tricks to increasing my performance to the maximum and keeping my computer running games smoothly until i upgrade in a year or so.Like what do you guys do or use on your computers to get your games running fast and smoothly, honestly id be glad at this point to just see a 3-5 fps boost across the board to all my games.

PS. super sorry about the long description i like to really go into detail.

Forgot to mention i also get some stuttering on a lot of my games such as Elite dangerous, Path of Exile, and in addition i think my AA may be janky as numerous of my games, even when i enable AA in the options, sometimes to max, i still get really blurry and jagged edges, examples includes Endless Legend,GW2,Wildstar, Age of wonders 3.

To be honest, the 860m is not a very good gpu. I hate to say it, what you have here is just a glorified midrange laptop in a SFF desktop case. There is really nothing you can do to improve performance other than dropping settings and or resolution.

Im assuming you are at 1080p.

I already know my computer is on the low end, i probably should of worded my question better but what im asking is what i can do to optimize my performance because as i said there is evidence to suggest that im missing out on a few frames by not optimizing my computer to its fullest. Essentially i know my computer is a low end PoS, but i was hoping to get some tips on getting the most out of my low end PoS.
