I'm getting ready to purchase parts for my first build. I'd love to get confirmation that everything looks okay before I pull the trigger. This PC will used for graphics work (Photoshop, Illustrator) and not much gaming. I'm re-using a GTX 750ti but may upgrade in the future. I'm at the very top of my budget.

I also considered a cheaper Xeon E3-1231 build, but I think the 6 core will serve me well for years.

GTX750ti will run on as little as 300w.
Here is a table that will help with sizing:
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm
A good psu of 600w will handle even a GTX980ti.
Buy only a quality psu like Seasonic, xfx, antec.
Here is another list of quality.

I have no problem overprovisioning a PSU a bit. Say 20%.
It will run cooler, quieter, and more efficiently in the middle third of it's range.
A PSU will only use the wattage demanded of it, regardless of it's max capability.

As to hard drive reliability, here is a link I found:

It looks to me like WD...

Thank you. That is not something I thought about. I need the storage, but I will go with a 1TB for now and look to add more later. Is there a particular brand you recommend?

Edit: I saw geofelt's response and will look into the WD Red.

What about the power supply? Is 550W enough or should I go up to 650? Will 550W be enough to power a better GPU if I decide to upgrade that?

Depends on the card. For something like a amd r9 390, you'd be better off with the 650-750w psus, for nvidia 970 a 550-620w is more than enough. That's assuming 1080p. Either of those cards will max ultra the vast majority of games. For anything lower, the psu would still be good. It's basically a matter of what team you prefer, team green or red. AMD gpus usually run @100w higher on psu for equitable performance, but all those wattage psus are in the same price ranges. (apart from sales and promotions etc)

It looks to me like WD fares better than Seagate.

This is great -- I'm definitely going with WD. One for now and a second for backup as soon as possible.

I really appreciate everyone's help and advice.
