Before 5 days, I started getting this very weird issue with my webcam integrated mic... First I thought it's Skype's fault since it was the only thing I was using the mic for(except CS:GO, but that worked fine).. The microphone seems to have very weak output when this certain event happens which triggers this behavior.

When I go inside Skype, then Tools > Options > Audio Settings, the green Volume bar that should jump around as I talk, now just bumps up for a second when i switch to the Audio Settings tab, every time.

Then I started investigating... Next thing I noticed, it's not just Skype... Sometimes it doesn't work right after I boot up Windows... Sometimes it stops working as I fire up Skype... It seems random.

Next I tried to turn on feedback("Listen to this device") and when the mic didn't work, all I heard was static noise and sometimes it would crunch, but rarely. Then I tried the Windows Sound Recorder to see if it would pick up my voice if I YELLED at it! And it did! Very weak though..

Then I decided to reboot my system but leave feedback on. When Windows started up, I could hear myself loud and clear, turned on Skype, did a test call.. Everything was fine.. Until I turned off feedback.. Next thing that accessed the webcam after turning off feedback, triggered that event of silence... Once again it didn't work.. And once this happens, it's impossible to get it back working unless I reboot the system and hope for the best...

Please don't tell me to reinstall drivers or rollback versions because I tried it ALL! A few times... Completely reinstalled the webcam drivers 3 times, reinstalled Realtek HD Audio drivers twice and reinstalled Skype twice, the second time flushing appdata files...

It's not muted anywhere in the sound options, it's maxed out everywhere and selected as the primary(default) device...

That's pretty much all I've done, unless I forgot something... I even did a boot-time scan for possible malware or other viruses that could cause this but none were found... Feel free to ask for any information related to this, I will gladly give it to you.

I really don't know what to do anymore. It's messed up beyond belief. Please help!

Update:

I have noticed that upon startup, when the mic doesn't get accessed by anything, it's fine, the first time it gets accessed, it works fine... Until you stop using it... Next time you access it, the mic doesn't work, or rather, you need to yell into it for it to poorly pick up your voice..

Anybody have any clue why this is happening?

Update:

I've got it solved! It's a pretty dumb fix... The mic was broken on the camera... It randomly picked up voice, then didn't... I brought my camera over to my friend and it was the same story... I have a C170 and he has a c270... While I was yelling at mine, it was barely registering any sound, his cam was showing max input(the green bars filled all the grey ones..)

Anyway.. he borrowed me his webcam and it works like a charm :)
