Confusion with video memory recognized with graphics card (980m 8GB)

I have a Sager NP-8268-S with an Intel 4710mq, Nvidia GTX 980m (with 8GB GDDR5 memory), and the rest I assume is somewhat irrelevant to the issue at hand. I purchased the computer with the knowledge that it has an 8GB graphics card, not its 4 GB counterpart. Whenever I use Nvidia Control Panel or CPU-Z I get a reading that the card is an 8 GB card. But the Can I Run it software and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility claims that I only have 4 GB of vRAM. I am wondering if there is a reason for this and if my computer is actually only able to utilize half of its vRAM. If so, why? Thanks!

Maybe those utlities don't detect the chipset right. They are only so good and don't always cover every single configuration possible on the planet. Laptop chipsets and GPU's get integrated a lot different than PC and sometimes are a lot harder for things to detect properly. If GPUz says 8GB, it's 8GB.
