This is the second time I post this question since I didn't receive any answers on my previous thread. I need help picking up a sound card for my PC since my on board sound is broken. There are the three cards available for me:

Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX
ASUS Xonar DGX Gaming Audio Card
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Value

Which one is the best in your opinion?

OK, there are a few things to consider here. First, both of the Creative cards you selected are PCI (not PCI Express) cards. Most modern motherboard do not have PCI slots. Are you sure that your motherboard has the necessary slot? Or if your motherboard is old, are you sure you have a free PCI Express x1 slot for the Asus DGX?

Personally, I'd choose the DGX if I had to make a choice. It supports the newer PCIE technology, and gets great reviews for audio quality. You might see better gaming support with one of the Creative cards.

The central problem you're going to run into is that these are all cheap cards. Creative has a history of bad driver support with their low-end/low volume products. The DGX failing is probably just a...

EDIT: Sorry about that, posted the wrong reply :).

Any of them will be just as good. Buy the cheapest one available, it won't make a difference. It is only worth considering a more expensive one if you are a person who has a very good ear for audio. Still not sure? Take this simple test: Do you know what HD 598s and Drivers (In headphones.) are? If not, go with this: Click here. I can guarantee that you won't here a difference.

I don't have any of those specific cards, but I can provide some general advice. Creative cards are generally perceived as more suitable for gaming, whereas Asus cards have a better reputation for music and movie playback. Can you give us an idea of what you'll be using it for, and whether you consider audio quality or gaming features more important?

Thanks for replying. I am going to be using it for both gaming and media playback. I did some search and found people complaining about Creative drivers while others complained that the ASUS card died on them after six months of use on newegg. So what I am really concerned about is driver support and reliability.

The DGX failing is probably just a reflection of the lower quality control that comes with cheap products. If you want something with great driver support and reliability, you're probably going to have to step up a price tier or two.

Ah, yes, Sennheisers. I tried the 558s and didn't like them. 598s are just a li'l too expensive for me. I'll just have to settle for my HD280's.

Thank you for your reply imrazor. I have both slots available on my motherboard. I don't really see the point of buying a sound card more expensive than that, not that I can find any at the big PC retail stores where I live, at least at the moment, so it will have to be one of those unfortunately. The Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX is the cheapest of the three, and I had plans on buying it earlier before realizing that Creative has a lackluster driver support for the card and for their other cards belonging to the same tier like you mentioned.
