An i5 4440+ B85 motherboard would come to the same cost as the FX+UD3P+212 EVO.

Do you happen to know the make/model of your 700W PSU?

An i3 is still an option and would definitely be a better choice over the FX series since you're not overclocking. Intel has much stronger single core performance and the FX series will need to be overclocked to keep up with them, although they are not always able to.

Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard (This is a great budget motherboard+has a good reputation, it's compatible with your cpu and you will get some good performance out of it. Gigabyte motherboards also have really good build quality.)

There are only about three 970 chipset motherboards I would recommend run an FX8xx. All of the others need much better power phases and/or VRM cooling. skyed3 has suggested one of them. It is an excellent budget board for your needs.

You can get it for under 70 pounds http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga970aud3p

I would strongly recommend getting an aftermarket CPU cooler and installing it from the start. The stock AMD coolers are not especially robust, or quiet. and it is much easier to put a good cooler in form the get-go, than to later take your system apart to put it in.

Been A long time since I built a PC, this one I am now I bought built, don't game anymore myself but after looking at built systems non of them really caught my eye for our budget sio building was my best option. At least I can salvage other bits from her current machine in order to get better newer parts.

Now the R7 or 750ti choice lol

The 750ti is your best bet for a 85 pound card and it sips power.

The next real upgrade would be the R9 380 in terms of price to performance and is significantly more powerful than the GTX 750ti. Goes for 120 pounds. Assuming your old PSU is decent in quality (expensive does not necessarily mean good quality) you wouldn't need a PSU upgrade.
