Why not just buy a real Seasonic?

For some reason I seem to see a lot of rebadged Seasonic power supplies recommended. People usually go out their way to point out they're actually made by Seasonic, as you can see by looking at the PSU tier chart.

So that begs the question: Why not buy a genuine branded Seasonic? Are they too expensive? Bad support? Short warranty? Inquiring minds want to know...

Normally price or availability (Seasonic's are hard to find in the UK - when I last looked, only Scan and Amazon seemed to carry them, and they were frequently out of stock). For example, when I built my PC, I could get a 660W Seasonic X-Series from one supplier, or the 760W Corsair AX-series from practically anywhere, for the same price.

Because sometimes manufacturers change their suppliers without letting anyone know. Suddenly your Seasonic rebadged PSU is a cheap knock-off.

not only that, but these forums will jam it down your / the OP's throat that they must absolutely categorically without question buy a Tier1/Tier2 power supply unless they want their house to burn down and roast their children.

or so i've heard.....

rebrands also can have different features, like more/less modular cables, different connector amounts, color coding, or frankly just a nice-looking paint job that matches the rest of your build. or they may simply be on the shelf in your local store, instead of having to order it and wait a week.

True, but I think it is for good reason. I see other tech forums where they recommend power supplies that I grin at.

Seasonic sets Seasonic prices, determines sales, retails it's own stuff etc. Seasonic also is OEM builder for many other companies who do not build their own psu. Consequently, they just get paid to build a psu, and have 0 control over what the client does or doesn't do with the units after delivery. If XFX wants to bury the market with Seasonic built psus at a decent price, then offer massive rebates on top of that, more power to them, but Seasonic has no say in what XFX chooses to sell at. End result is consumer gets a Seasonic built psu at a price they are comfortable with.

They're more expensive I think.
