Looking to build video editing/gaming computer for ~$1200 CAD

I am looking into building my first computer. I want to get into video editing, but nothing too extreme. I am also wanting to do some gaming on it but nothing extreme, as I prefer console gaming. My budget is roughly $1200 give or take. I don't have any plans for overclocking but if having the capabilities is worth it then I guess I will go that route.
I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not, but I would like to have a SSD for the operating system and have a separate drive for my main storage for things.
The biggest thing of me is that I don't want this computer to be completely bogged down in a couple years. I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro that is just not cutting it any more.
I am in Canada so if any builds get posted, CAD is ideal.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Ben, he lives in Canada.

Solution

The 750Ti can play games at low to medium settings on 1080p with good framerates. It'll provide you with a good gaming experience. I focused the build on video editing while having room for gaming, too. As you may notice, it has 3TB of space because I know videos can take up a lot of space. The Xeon processor and 16GB RAM are also aimed toward the video editing.

Sorry i missed the line " to do some gaming but nothing extreme, as i prefer console" . So, in that case i would pick a GTX 950 with the same price as 750 Ti costs ,that will help you to play most modern games.

Here at UK, it only costs £10-20 more than a 750 Ti. If i would him, i don't care about that extra £10 for better performance. I thought the dollar price would be nearly same. Anyway's, since its a Canadian dollar prices are expected to be higher, so i can't do nothing with that but with $40 more still a worthy one. Any how i succeeded to keep things around the budget.

A couple more questions before I pull the trigger on this. Would I notice a lot of performance drop if I went with more $1000 range and invested in a better monitor or is it better to get a better computer off the bat with a cheaper monitor and upgrade the monitor in the future? As for the tower, what kind of specs should I be looking at? I would like a tower that is sleek looking and not super simple

Spending $1000 more might be a better deal for upcoming years. Getting a good monitor is a long-term invest. Some of them don't care about display's as they only satisfy with regular one and spend more on PC components. You can add a better video card if you want.
