I just built my self a gaming pc. I have gpu-z and cpu-z installed along with msi afterburner. When I run my render test with gpu-z the mhz of the card goes up to 1440. However when I stop this render test and go open up a game, it goes to 889.9 mhz and doesn't go up, but It goes down from time to time. What can I do to fix this so my gpu goes around 1440 mhz like shown in the render test?

this seems to happen to me also, when playing far cry 3, and the online game secondlife. both games seem to not reach my max clock speed, but with games like battlefield and GTA5 it doesnt do that. It does this with every game?

i have AMD so i do not know much about Nvidia, but have you tried messing with the settings in the Nvidia control panel? it could be something thats holding your card back from using its max power. or check to see if you have other graphic intensive applications open that might be causing your current game to not use its full power.

It's normal for the MHz to drop off when the GPU isn't being pushed to it's limit, and some games just don't push it to it's limit, especially if you use vsync.
It's a bit like saying the engine in your car can go to 7,000rpm, yet when driving on the open road it's only at 2,000rpm.....it's only when you need all the power you can get that you need the higher rpm, your GPU is the same.

Yes but it's not normal for a GTX 980 ti SC to barely run csgo at 90 fps on very low, and to barely run arma 3 at 30 fps on medium. My old 200$ gtx 960 did better than that xD
