CPU Cooler Question

TOMS to the rescue one more time? I’ve got a CPU cooler question:

My FX 8350 (OC’d to 4.5) and Asus Sabertooth mobo have been very good to me. But I’m eyeing the i7-6770k as my tri-annual upgrade. The 2X GTX 970s in SLI will be staying put.

If anyone wants to recommend a Z170 mobo for the i7, feel free (less than $200?).

But my main question is this: I currently have a Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro cooler and don’t want to have to buy another if not needed. Is it usable with the i7? Or is it all mobo dependent?

The Water 2.0 specs say: Intel LGA 1150/2011/1366/1156/1155. But I don’t know Intel-speak, so I’m not sure what I’m looking for regarding fit?

Thanks for any assist!

Solution
LGA1551 (skylake socket) uses the same cooler mount as LGA1150 and LGA1155 so it will be compatible. My recommendation for a mobo would be the Asus Z170-A:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132566&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

You will also need to buy a DDR4 RAM kit.

modernwar99: Thank you. I have the ASUS board now and have always liked them, saw that one you linked but wasn't sure in comparison to some of the ~$200 ones. I like less $.

Feel free to recommend the RAM kit too of you have time. Probably only looking at 8 gb but fastest I can get under $100?

That board supports SLI, and has a great power delivery system for a high OC. A $200 board might be better for extreme OCing, but I honestly don't think they're worth it. Though if you are looking for specific features the Z170-A doesn't have, I could try looking for a better one.

For RAM, you could get a cheap but fast 2400MHz kit for $55 or 3200MHz kit for $70. Couldn't tell you how much of a difference it would make in real world applications, but you said you wanted the fastest...
2400: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226742&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Thanks a bunch again. You just helped me upgrade. Pulling trigger now. Amazon actually has the i7 bundled with the ASUS Z170-A for $513 free ship, couple bucks cheaper than Newegg. You rock! Thanks again!!!

EDIT: Ended up with Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000 memory with 15 latency for $65. Oh, and Newegg was cheaper for the whole package after all--Amazon tried to sock me for almost $40 tax at checkout. Whoops. No thanks.
