hello

i have a problem, so yesterday i got a non working PC from the thrift store, since it didnt work, i took the power supply out because my old custom built needed one, i plugged in all the power cables for the motherboard, hard drive, DVD-ROM, and the little green light on the motherboard lit up, so i pushed the PC's power button, and nothing happened, no fans, no case lights, nothing, i tested the PSU in a different PC and it worked perfectly! but it just wont work in my old custom built, does anyone know whats happening?

EDIT: the motherboard model is an ASUS a7a266

Solution

What was the brand and model number of the previous power supply unit?

What...

really? the computer used to be powered by a 300 watt power supply and it worked perfectly, but i kept shutting it down and restarting it because i was fiddling around with some settings in the BIOS, i was trying to turn off the chassis intrusion detector, and i ended up succeeding in that, but then when i turned it off and turned it back on,
the hard drive activity light started flashing red and i think it was the power supply that was causing the problem

EDIT: the current power supply im using is a bestec 285 watt from a 2004 emachines PC

What was the brand and model number of the previous power supply unit?

What is the model number of the Bestec 285W PSU?

sorry for the very very late reply.. but i found out that the problem was the motherboard itself

i tried the bestec power supply and the sparkle power supply on my windows 98 gaming PC that has a micron motherboard from 1998, and the computer booted up just fine, if the bestec power supply worked on my windows 98 machine, then it HAD to work on my other custom built with a newer motherboard

so i guess that the motherboard is ruined
