Do I need to replace my HDD or the cables?

I am having a problem with my HDD. I have all my games installed on it.

It is being extremely slow at starting up programs and games, and they will stop responding for 20-30 seconds after I begin them, but if I wait it out, I can play the games just fine.

So does this mean its the cables that have gone bad? I want to know so I don't blow money on a new HDD only to have the same problem because is the cables that are the issue.

Hi there Twyster_42,

The best way to see whether there is something wrong with the cables is to just attach the HDD with different ones.
Apart from that, in case the test results(from the tool that Someone Somewhere provided) show you that there are are some reallocated/pending/uncorrectable sectors on the drive, you need to back up the data stored on it as soon as possible.
