hi, i wanted to know which one of the setups above is better for high resolution, will the gtx 780's perform better even with the 3gb instead of 4gb on the r9 290's? or will this extra memory will make the difference so the r9 290's will be the better choice?

Solution
The 780 is a bit faster than a 290 and SLI also works way better than CF so id go for that one. Im running 2 780tis in SLI (also 3gb VRAM) and dont have any issues @1440p. And with DX12 and the option to add the VRAM of the seconds GPU (no idea when this will be a thing but it was announced) you wont have to worry about that. Guess this will take a while though.

Id still go with the 780 setup. :)
