Two weeks ago I was playing Dota 2 when all of a sudden my computer completely froze, nothing was responding. I hard reset my machine via the power button and after I got past the windows logo, it locked up again. I was able to boot it several more times to varying degrees - sometimes being able to login into windows before it froze, sometimes not. I was even able to boot it into safe mode. I ran every test I could think of: Check Disk, Dxdiag, Memory Test, Windows System File Check etc. Nothing turned up any results. Nothing seems to be overheating either - my processor was running around 55-65C, which is what it normally runs at. When I woke up the next day and booted my computer it was working perfectly.

Unfortunately two days ago my computer broke again while playing Dota 2 with the same issue - boot to the windows logo screen then completely lockup. I reformatted my whole SSD and reinstalled Windows. For a while it was working, I was able to do everything I should, but then when I booted into Dota 2 it crashed again.

Since yesterday when that happened, the issue still persists -- I boot my PC, get to the windows logo, then nothing... the screen either goes black or a light teal with nothing being responsive. I'm still able to boot into safe mode. Is my SSD is failing? Is it my video card? I honestly have idea what the issue is? Any help would be appreciated.

*edit* I should probably also note I've had my ssd for almost 3 years come November.

*edit 2* My specs:

Intel i5-2500k 3.3Ghz
8GB DDR3 Ram - 2x4GB
Nvidia 570 GTX
Corsair 250 GB SSD
MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard

Hey there, sang29.

Backup any important data which you might have on that SSD, if you haven't done so already. After that go ahead and download an SSD diagnostics tool and test it for errors to see if you get any different results. It's good that you don't get any memory errors. I'd suggest that you try the SSD with a different SATA port and SATA cables, to see if you keep getting those issues. It would be even better to try it with a different computer as well. Also, if you have an HDD, download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics tool and test it as well. You could also try booting to Windows and play games with all other drives disconnected, to see if this problem reoccurs.

Please let me know how everything goes.

corsair 650w modular power supply

So I installed a new SSD and no luck -- system keeps crashing after getting past the windows logo screen still.

I tried a new SATA cable and port and the problem still persisted.

I removed one of my memory sticks and it still crashed. I can't remove the other without removing my cpu heatsync, but i doubt its a memory issue. I really don't know what the issue could be at this point? :(

So I'm tentaively thinking it could be a video card problem.

When I was reinstalling drivers on the new SSD I purchased, that's when the computer froze and died. Furthermore, I can still boot the computer in safe mode. Thoughts?

Well you could try reinstalling or updating the GPU (Video Card) drivers, but if you don't get better results my advice would be that you get your computer to a computer service shop and let the guys there diagnose the problem and hopefully they can come up with a solution.

Hi there sang29! Seems like we both have similar problems or atleast similar symptoms. Coincidentally, I was also playing Dota2 when my problem occured (not sure if this helps). Man, Reborn is such a pain in the ass.

My problem is still up in the air though. Anyways, Goodluck!
