My friend needs a gaming pc exactly $400 or less. Make sure it destroys console and all new consoles and has hd 1080 gameplay on most games but on some mostly mid-high. I just wanna say that is this build better then what you might have though of? I brought this on my own...also in the future he's gonna change to a i5 so i guess i3 is still great for gaming.

well $300 for just the desktop tower is not enough to work with if he wants an i3. you wont be able to make a console beater for $300 using new parts.

even with a pentium g3258 it will still be around $440... I would personally tell him to save up a bit more money and buy the build i listed.

Only 1 way that's going to happen on $400 budget is very tight shopping on eBay. You can get a decent pc for $400, but when it comes to a decent gpu, its very easy to add a further $200 to that. Even brand new Walmart pc's or Sam's club, at the $400 price range usually do not include a dedicated gpu, relying on an APU, with its igpu or an i3 with hd4000, neither of which will be anything more than low-medium in 1080p.

My build from ebay:

MSI mpower z77 $50
I7 3770k $50
Nzxt Kraken x61 $40
Fractal design r5 window $30
Patriot 2x4Gb 1866MHz ram $20

That was the easy part. New gtx970 $300, new Evga G2 550w $80

$190 for the build, $380 for what I refuse to compromise on. Total = $570 for a pc that will destroy 1080p on ultra.

For medium-high settings, look for a r9 270/270x, gtx660, and a good 520-550w psu.

If you shop smart, it can be done, but it will take time, took me 4 months, but saved me @$800

That's eBay for ya. No one would believe a r5 for $30 either, except for the tiny dent in the right side panel, or an x61 that when put on auction didn't include the words cpu or cooler, so most searches missed it. The 3770k was listed as a 3707k processor, not i7 or Intel cpu. 1 little typo and the $50 starting bid was all mine.

As I said, gotta shop smart, you can't just do a general search or you see what everyone else sees. Gotta get creative with wording. The x61 came from Canada and the bloke who was selling it didn't have the greatest command of English. A little unscrupulous maybe, but I'm not about to pay full price for anything that I consider secondary. Just got a logitech g110 keyboard, new they go for $100+. 3 months old and I paid $18. I was watching 50 or so at that time, and I'd set my own $20 limit.

It's not impossible to get great deals, just takes time and patience. It's not bullshit either, and I resent the implication.
