Here's the problem, while you certainly could sell that setup - it's unlikely you could get more than that for it. And then you'd have to buy an entirely new setup, and pay a premium for all new parts while only gaining a moderate increase in gaming power.

Keep it simple. The base system you have is a solid one. Buy a top tier GPU (390x or 980) and sell the 6970s to recoup some of the outlay. The 6970s go for about $90 each on eBay, that would offset your GTX980 ($400) or R9-390x (also about $400) and cut the price in half.

So - for the complete cash outlay (not including the base system) you'd only need to drop a net of $200 and you'd have a -solid- gaming system.

I would:

Keep the system you have, but need to upgrade the GPU. The 6970's were good cards, but a GTX-970/980 or a R9-390x would bring a pretty big jump in power. There's a big difference especially from nVidia over the past few generations. Of them - the GTX-980 would give you the best bang for the buck.

If I were you, then I wont sell this whole PC. I7-2600K is still a great performer.
Better get a great GPU with SSD+PSU+CASE.
What is your PSU model???
