Hey guys. Im kinda new to this stuff so i prefer to ask before i do something stupid.

Here i have a HP ML330 G6
It has 2 SAS disks both x300GB 6G DP 10K connected in RAID 1
one of those disks gives me red light and msg that i have surface error so i want to change it
Now i have brand new disk same as the other 2 and my question is: Do i need to do something or when i connect it on same port it will be automatically added to the RAID

Solution
No, it should be fine. As long as the new drive is the same model from HP, you should be good to go.

Just remove the old drive and plug in the new one. Both drives will start accessing as the existing good drive transfers data to the new one. Just make sure that your UPS unit is good, because the server can get upset if a power failure happens during drive synchronization.

It also helps for the server to be idle (or close to it) during this process. I usually choose an end of day time that is not on Monday or Friday, but if the existing drive is dead you probably shouldn't wait.

Ok i replaced the failed disk and all went good.. i guess
What bothers me is that i never saw any msg about syncing or imaging my data, however the server booted normally and both disks indicate proper work. I have to say it loaded faster than i though... I was told that it might take few hours but it took like 10 min
