Hi,

I want to be able to game on 60+fps on ultra on game like wow while raiding in a 30 man team, I currently have FX-8350, FX-97 AM3+ Mobo, 12gb HyperX fury Ramm and an R9 290X but this just isn't cutting it, any suggestions on upgrades would be amazing, Thanks guys.

Games such as wow, mmo, strategy, and sims tend to depend on a single fast master core for performance.
Your FX-8350 has 8 cores, but the single core performance rating is weak, at 1506.
You can increase that by overclocking.

By comparison, The cheapest $50 Intel dual core cpu, the G1840 has a single core rating of 1653.
A i3-4170 with a single core rating of 2140 would likely be a better performer.

You can test the sensitivity of your games to core speed and number of cores.
Here is my stock approach:

------------------------------------------------------------
To help clarify your CPU/GPU options, run these two tests:

a) Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu...

You're joking right? you shouldn't need SLI GPU for a game like wow unless you're looking at 4k im only running 1080px

To help clarify your CPU/GPU options, run these two tests:

a) Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

b) Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

You should also experiment with removing one core. You can do this in the windows msconfig boot advanced options option. set the number of processors to less than you have.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many cores.

If your FPS drops significantly, it is an indicator that your cpu is the limiting factor, and a cpu upgrade is in order.

It is possible that both tests are positive, indicating that you have a well balanced system, and both cpu and gpu need to be upgraded to get better gaming FPS.

I think given the games I am playing wow/lol both being very heavily reliant on single core processing that its my CPU that is holding me back I am looking at getting an I5-4690k or and I7-4770 at the moment which one do you suggest?

The extra hyperthreads of a I7 are not useful to you. Between the two, the 4690K with an overclock will be better.
But, really, a new build today should be Skylake.
Since your budget permits a $300 i7-4770, and you will need a new motherboard, I suggest:
i5-6600K, about $250; plan on an overclock to about 4.6.
A Z170 motherboard will be about $100.
Z170 will permit the use of some very fast ssd type devices coming in the next year.
8gb kit(2 x 4gb) of ddr4 ram will be $50. 2133 speed is fine.

I have taken you advice on board and have ordered myself and I5-6600k a Z170 Mobo 8gb of RAMM and a new SSD for my new OS and WOW should this run wow on ultra at 60+ fps at 1080px ?
