Sorry if this is already answered, but for me searching the forum and trying to winnow an
answer from all the variations on the theme of storage was overwhelming!

Anyway, I'm getting an MSI GT80 laptop (I move around a lot and also enjoy gaming)
and, for me, the OS drive fills up fast with games. The GT80 has two 128Gb m2Sata
drives in Raid 0. I simply want to double that capacity to 512Gb. I have a Samsung 850 EVO
from another project and can get a second one on Amazon for a reasonable price.
The physical form factor of the 850s is fine for the GT80. Since it's new out of the box
I don't care about anything on the GT80.

So can I simply install the new drives, use Windows 8.1 on the DVD or thumb drive,
and do a fresh install (I've got Windows 10 on a thumb drive but my understanding is you can't install it clean without a key even though it's "free"). This seems too simple. What might I be missing? I'm not sure how I could clone the raid 0 ssds even if I wanted to.

TIA,

Peter

your plan should work.

build the RAID 0 first. then install windows 8.1, activate it and install windows 10.

you can try installing windows 10 first, maybe you will get lucky and get it to activate with the windows 8.1 key. if it fails to activate just format the partition, install 8.1, activate, upgrade to 10.
