Hello everyone,

I am looking into upgrading the memory on my motherboard to 32GB as the 12GB Patroit memory I have is proving insufficient for heavy 3D and motion graphics work.

I have P6TD motherboard: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6TD_Deluxe/

I am running a i7-920 processor.

The memory modules I am looking at:

--------------------

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9S-8GBXL
DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)

Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM
Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
Timing: 9-9-9-24
Model #: F3-1600C9D-16GXM
Item #: N82E16820231568
Return Policy: Standard Return Policy

----------------

I am not sure which of these to get. I know I want a minimum of 8GB per memory module which would give me a theoretical amount of 48GB total. I am considering buying the 32GB set with the possibility of getting another 16GB if I need it.

The computer shop salesperson advised me that I should just buy a new motherboard and a new processor and then purchase more modern memory that way. I'm fairly happy with the performance of this machine and see no need to upgrade - the lack of memory is the only bottleneck. I would also like to go beyond the stated maximum of 24GB according to the manual.

Any advice on how best to proceed would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You cannot put more than 24 GB's on your motherboard, it won't work.If you add 16 GB's , should be enough for what you're doing.
