hi, a good friend of mine have two graphic cards that he want to give to me, but which should I choose ? one is the 2GB GDDR 384 Bit and a 2GB GDDR5 128 bit. He told me that he don't need it anymore and since we're not a computer expert so we don't know the brand. The card is old and its from his uncle's computer, who just passed away a few weeks ago :( . Please help me choose one. Thank you very much.

GDDR5 is much faster than DDR3

but the more important thing is the name of the GPU itself so people can know it's performance

Speaking generally , a card with 2 GB GDDR5 will be faster than a card with 2 GB GDDR3 even if it has higher bit bandwidth

bitrate of ram alone, is no basis for speed of a gpu. the 384 bit gpu could be an old 8800gtx, and the 128bit ram gpu could be a much newer/faster gpu. Speaking generally as abve, ddr3 or ddr5 has no bearing on hopw fast a gpu will be. For example the 64bit ddr3 version of the gt 730 is faster than the 128bit ddr5 version of the same card. Because the one with the lower speed ram has a significantly more powerful graphics processor, which is more important than ram speed.

Another example would be: ram running at 1000mhz at 256bit ddr5, and ram running at 2000mhz that is 128bit ddr3 will have identical bandwith.

Well the comparison is hard because you don't know the card's names
Sometimes DDR3 could be faster than DDR5 if it has higher clock speed + higher bandwidth

I said DDR5 is faster in your case because I think the card with GDDR5 is more modern than the card with GDDR3
But in case of the DDR3 card is more stronger than the DDR5 things will be different

It is really really hard to till which will bring higher performance without knowing the card's names .

GTX 680 is faster and has more performance than the GTX 760 , Get the GTX 680 .

yes, the 680 is indeed better than the 760. Just check your power supply can handle it, would say 550w good quality psu for the 680 as a minimum.
