Please excuse me from my computer ignorance purchased an Alienware M15x and would like to update the CPU for my son currently has Intel 740 q I purchased the Intel 920xm I did my research to know that it does fit the socket and that this CPU was an upgrade option for this model my question is because this CPU was offered in the model does that mean that I don't have to update the BIOS and just swap out the CPU and if I do have to update the BIOS ( this is where the ignorance part comes in) could someone be more specific on what exactly that entails and also if I swap out the CPU without updating the BIOS would I damage anything or would it be a case of it just not working and I'd have to reinstall the old CPU thank you so much for your help Thanks Gary

Well, with some older chipset motherboards, you need to update the BIOS before a new CPU can be put in.
If your motherboard does indeed need a BIOS update to run the newer CPU, and you didn't update the BIOS, then the computer just wouldn't turn on. You'd have to reinstall the old CPU, flash the BIOS, and then install the new CPU and everything should be fine.
