for overclocking you should go for a z97 motherboard its an intel chipset officially for overclocking by intel these motherboards have extreme overclocking features for overclockers like oc buttons on motherboard.

For gaming u can choose any motherboard, gaming motherboards usually features

- 2000 mgz of ram support,
- 10 gb/s or 12 gb/s of sata and sata express slot,
- 4x or 5x SLI support

but in releaty u dont need that much of specs on a mother board

- 6 gb/s is enough for killer speed, just use a ssd and it will boost up ur system like a supercar
- and 4x or 5x sli is just for shit, the supply's are very expensive for this setup, and in benchmarks two gpu's perform better than 4 or 5
- and if ur using a 2100 mhz, this is...

if you can find reviews which tell you about their VRM's. For overclocking generally more and higher quality VRM's mean higher more stable OC's. It is just a rule of thumb. Personally I generally prefer Gigabyte as I have had a better history with them in terms of resilience. I have had 2 asus boards go kaput, MSI I haven't used really and Gigabyte boards that keep chugging after 5+ years (passed onto friends etc. that are still running them).

So in the end if ur oc'ing then go for a z97 motherboard not a super cheap one, but good quality motherboard in the mid range like 70$ to 100$ they will not feature u features like overclocking buttons

For gaming also go for a mid range but good quality motherboard like 70$ to 100$

And for ram 1600 is more than enough
