Hi, i have some issues with some new ram I bought.
I have this pc specs.

Motherboard Intel dx79to
Intel I7 3820k 3.6ghz
Corsair xms3 2x4gb 1600mhz
Asus Strix 970gtx 4gb

so the issue is My motherboard says it supports 1866 mhz. But my cpu only suports 1600.
I've been reading a littlebit before buying my new ram, And in most sites it said that the motherboard would still run the ram.

So I bought 2x8gb hyper x 1866mhz
And tried the next configuration.
dual channel 16gb = pc does a loop boot but wont start.
single chanel 16 gb = same as before
dual chanel 12 gb (1x4gb of my old rams and 1x8gb of the new ones,) no pc starts, and also can check the bios, but the pc shows the clock speed of the ram to 1333mhz.

I just dont know much more about pc so It would help me to know what i'm doing wrong. Or what could I do to make the ram work. at least if there is anyway possible for me to underclock the memory to run at 1600 ?
thanks in advance to anyone who knows something.

Hi,
It seems your board does work with upto 2133 Mhz RAM (see here) but you most likely need to update the bios (download it here).

It is best to do the update straight from the bios. You will need a usb flash disk formatted to fat32 filesystem.

Once you've updated the bios, install only the new 2x8gb ram in dual channel mode as described in your motherboard's manual and power on. You will want to wait at least a whole minute for it to configure the RAM.

Report back here on your progress.

I will try updating my bios manually, had done that via software as There it was that option in intels website, but I guess that could work, I'll report how it went later. thanks for the answers.

Finally after a couple of tests, updated the bios, and trying to underclock the memory.
the ram won't work alone 'cause my cpu specs dont allow over 1600. and the bios doesnt show the xmp profile. so I guess it doesnt have one.
I did reset de CMOS and only got the same problem. when I used the Hyper X, pc started, and instanly shut down, and then restarted with 3 beeps sounds.
not showin the BIOS.
Finnally, using my old ram and my new ones in quad channel, at 1333mhz was the more stable configuration I got. still I think I'll try to change the rams for a couple of 1600. and keep it at 16 gb. thanks for the help anyways.
