GTA V Horrible stuttering including videos - game unplayable

Hi, i've looked through the topics, tried all solutions but couldn't find an answer/solution to this.

From the very first video, the game stutters horribly, with pauses of as much as 1-2 seconds where the screen is freezing. The game character is barely controllable and to aim a weapon impossible in most of cases. I think my fps are bellow 10. The only moment when the game runs fluently is when i start running with my character. Due to the same stuttering i'm unable to pass even the first mission, the car heist and the video preceding it (intro) is cutting all the time. I've updated the latest drivers (including nVidia), DirectX, changed the DX value to 0...to no avail. The processor runs at ~30% most of the time.

This is my configuration:

i3-4030u @1.90Ghz
4GB RAM
GeForce 840m
1TB Toshiba MQ01ABD100
Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70

Hi,

the gpu in the laptop won't cut it for GTA V,
they recommend a quad core CPU

Whit that pc, don't expect more than 10-20 fps @ lowest resolution possible.

This is a weaker CPU with a similar configuration yet it still runs it, i get nowhere near to that, i can't even watch the videos:

Thank you, i did it. I'm clueless to what is causing this. As i said the processor rarely gets over 30% usage.

That is likely your performance problem.

1. Is there a physical switch on your laptop to select economy/performance?
2. Is there a Toshiba supplied app to make such a selection?

Google to find more options.

No, it seems to be an Nvidia issue, i'm reverting back now to 347.88 drivers.

I see a few problems as your system spec is really too low but I think your main problem is RAM. Does your 840m have its own dedicated VRAM or is it sharing the system RAM, I suspect its sharing system RAM. If I am correct you do not have enough ram to share between the main system and the GPU. However even if you upgrade your ram your gaming experience in AAA titles such as GTA V is going to be poor due to weak CPU & GPU

The 840m has its own dedicated RAM (2GB), which is far from being used completely at the current settings (1300/2000 approx.). It got better since i was able to change the power settings and it now uses the 840m instead of the integrated Intel GPU. It is somehow playable. Still, some issues remain, it stutters when i walk (but not when i run) and also while driving, the sounds cuts off etc.

Ok, so here are some additional informations after trying some things:

- Game put to lowest settings and it just runs and stutters the same as on high, maybe even worse
- Shadows disabled, same problem
- Moved page file to another disc, didn't solve anything either
- Processor running at around 10% while this is happening
- Disabled "pause game while focus lost" it solved the walking stuttering

Any idea?

It is pretty much the same issues the guy is describing in here:

I do not know why your cpu is at 10%.
But, your cpu just about meets the minimum announced requirements for the game.
It is about half the recommended cpu capability.
It would not be surprising to me that you would have at least some performance issues.

Double check to see that you are running performance profile and you are plugged in.

Try running a stress test to see if the cpu will go at 100%
Use occt or similar.

Is there possibly a game patch?

Ok, i have no idea what i've done exactly but the game is running just fine now on medium-high settings with this same rig (which some judged to be bellow the minimum). This is the same game playing on a similar platform with an even weaker processor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyFB5tA7Rg0

As a clue to future users, i've applied everything that was said in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABJ8zElU9K4) and shut down a keylogging program i have on my PC that was apparently causing the lag each time a key was pressed/command was given, causing some conflict with the game.

After further testing some lag and stuttering still occured at high-speed driving/accidents etc. but with the processor still being at 40-50% max i suspect it's got to do with the sound driver what some users also reported. I'll look into the issue.

Well, i'm handling it with no problems to your dismay. I'm tired of those arrogant and ignorant guys telling everyone "you can't run it unles you have 80 cores, 20 giga-biga etc" while they never did try it themselves. Virtually, todays computers are strong enough to make any game run on integrated graphics at the worst settings and with some tweaks, let alone a middle-high notebook processor and discrete GPU such as mine.

Anyway, performance isn't the issue here anymore, it's the sound and stuttering it causes what many users reported running on much more powerful desktop platforms and apparently no patch has been issued by Rockstar yet.

PS: If you bothered to read i do have 2 cores and 4GB of RAM. Lol.

Ok, so i am able to play it at medium-high settings on 1366x768 with i3-4030u and Nvidia 840m.
I have to notice that the computer heats far less than with GTA IV. Some sound stuttering still occurs sometimes but it seems related to the game, i will try to lower the settings to see if that makes any difference.
