Is it worth paying $135 extra for additional 128 GB SSD?

Hi..

I am planning to buy one Dell XPS 13 inch laptop. I am undecided about 8 GB RAM & 128 GB SSD OR 8 GB RAM & 256 GB SSD.

I know I can't upgrade from 4 GB RAM to 8 GB RAM later, because RAM in XPS is soldered. I am sure about the RAM size I want. But, should I go for 256 GB storage or 128 GB. More importantly, is it worth paying $150 extra for an additional 128 GB? My usage pattern: I am an academician - apart from my data and few statistical softwares and utilities I don't have any other fancies. I regularly play few songs and I have a good collection of it. Please help me decide the right storage size and extra money I need to pay.

Thanks.

The XPS 13 uses a M.2 SATA SSD. It's relatively simple to upgrade the SSD yourself.

A 250GB Samsung 850 EVO is about $110. Minus whatever you can sell the 128GB SSD for. The only catch is I don't know what 256GB SSD Dell is using, so its performance may be better than the 850 EVO (whose performance is already very good so this may not be a big deal).

Normally I suggest 250GB for laptops. But your usage doesn't seem very heavy. And given the pricing, I'd say get the 128GB and use it for a bit. if you start to feel cramped, buy a 250 or 500 GB SSD to replace it and do the upgrade yourself.
