Just built my new system with an ASRock P67 Extreme6 and i5 2500k, powered on into the bios for the first time and the CPU temp is hovering at 65C°+ (up to 75C°), mobo at 25C°...

Tried reseating the CPU cooler (stock) twice, convinced it's on properly and securely, fans spinning fine. Using the Antec 902 v3 case, side off.

What gives? Does the bios put the CPU under load? Reluctant to start installing the OS if I'm just going to have to strip out parts again.

Generally the bios isn't too accurate, but that does indeed seem high. Mine is overclocked a good amount and doesn't go over 50C.

I'm sure you removed and applied fresh thermal compound when you reseated the cooler?

Aside from reseating it again with some nice TIM, all you can really do is go ahead and install windows then download RealTemp or something and see how it's doing. BIOS for whatever reason usually reads a higher temp, I guess none of the power saving features work at all.

Well, tried to go ahead and install Windows 7 but get hangs every single time on "Setup is Starting," or earlier. Tried disabling the floppy controller, disabling USB 3.0, then USB 2.0, unplugged everything but the monitor...no luck.

Could the hang be a result of the CPU temp?

Ok, installed a Corsair H50 water cooler and bios temp came down to 35C° so guess the stock HSF was just crap. Still get hung trying to install Windows 7 though, so guess it's off to more thread searching for the fix there...
