Where do thin clients use memory internally or on the LTSP server

I'm using LTSP on a virtual box server with 8GB of memory & I am using 2 old laptops as my thin clients.

Both laptops boot over the Network & load up the Ubuntu operating system & I can log in but I see a massive difference in performance. It works great on the laptop with 3GB of RAM installed but it is laggy & slow on the other laptop that has 512 MB of RAM.

I thought that the purpose of thin clients was that all of the processing work is done centrally on the server.

So my simplistic and probably stupid question is, when your working on a LTSP desktop environment are you using the memory on the client or the server?

If you are PXE booting the laptops as clients, then the loaded OS uses local memory. It may be a minimal OS, but still requires local memory. Most commercial thin clients have 2GB RAM plus PROM for the OS/applications.
