Intel core i3 540 + GTX460 SLi

Hi guys,

I am planning to buy another ASUS GTX460 (1GB) to use with my old one, connected as SLi, instead of upgrading to a newer graphic card. However, my motherboard's (ASUS P7H57D-V EVO) specification says, SLI mode is only available with Intel's non-integrated graphics (Lynnfield) processors!
I found some tests where GPUs in SLi mode were compatible with the next gen Intel CPUs (i.e. Ivy Bridge), and they have also integrated graphics.

I know these are quite old stuffs, but will the 2 GPUs work with the 1st gen Core i3? Or what does it mean '*SLI™ and CrossFireX™ mode are available only for Intel non-integrated graphics (Lynnfield) processors.'?

My actual specs:
ASUS P7H57D-V EVO
Intel® Core™ i3 540 + Noctua NH-U9B SE2
ASUS GeForce ENGTX460 DirectCu/2DI/1GD5 ----- (x2 in SLi?)
Kingston HyperX genesis kit (KHX1333C7D3K2/4GX)
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB (HD103SJ) + ADATA SP550
Cooler Master real power M520
(gaming@1080p)

Solution
Off hand I don't know why it wouldn't, unless the two core just can't carry SLI, it has 16 PCI-E lanes same as the Lynnfield i5s. Could also be a built in chipset limitation

Thanks for the fast reply!
I don't think it cannot carry SLI connection, and nor the MB would have chipset limitations - fortunately it's not a typical of ASUS products. The misleading information is the main problem for me:
On Intel's website, the CPU supports 1x16 or 2x8 PCIe 2.0 configurations whether it has iGPU or not
-BUT-
On ASUS site it says only non-iGPU Lynnfield CPUs are compatible with SLI mode.
(*SLI™ and CrossFireX™ mode are available only for Intel non-integrated graphics (Lynnfield) processors.)

I guess it would turn out only during live testing, but I wouldn't buy the second card if someone could confirm it will not work :s

"*Dual x8 mode is only supported by motherboard with two PCIe x 16 slots and Intel non-integrated graphics(Lynnfield) processors."

I think I found it:
It does looks like the motherboard cannot operate with the integrated GPU of the processor + 2 discrete GPUs connected with SLi.
I need to upgrade my GTX460 to a stronger card, or another solution is to change my Core i3 540 (Clarkdale) CPU to a Core i5 7xx (Lynnfield) [or Core i7 8xx] one. I think I choose the latest, as I'll get 4 cores instead of the actual 2 ;]

Thanks Tradesman1 for the help!
