GTX980 vs AMD F9 390x?

I have a problem here.... I was told the 390x is a better card than the 980 for 1080p I heard you get more fps with the 390x and it's 150 dollars cheaper. What would you guys recommend and is it capital with my current specs?

I7 6700k
Z170 Mobo
750 Watt G2 PSU

The cards trade blows across various titles. 1080p is more the 980's platform to win though. The 390X is more of the 1440p/4K champion in various titles and has more depth in crossfire configurations, really benefiting 4K

The 390X however will produce more heat and have a higher power consumption

Both are entirely overpowered for 1080p gaming. If all you want is 1080 don't want the $ on a 980

I was looking at 1080p comparisons and it's looked liked the 390x had a better fps. Also would this AMD card fit with my intel board and processor?

Yes would work fine if you want 1080p there is no need to spend the money for a 980

Nvidia have officially drop the price of 980. The price difference between 390X and 980 is about $50-$80 depending on deal. 390X was tune so it can compete with 980. So of cource you will find 390X to be faster than 980 in certain titles. The only concern probably power consumption. To sustain higher clock AMD increase the card power consumption further. If you look at TPU review the power consumption 390X is a lot higher than 290X. Even on average 390X can consume more than 300w (almost 350w to be exact). So if you want to pick 390X makes sure you got very good PSU. The was a guy with 390 (not sure if it was X or non X model) have his 8pin PCIE cable got burned because the card draw power more than the cable capable of supplying. And that is Corsair 1500W unit from their AX series.

I got my msi r9 390x used on amazon warehouse deals for $325 vs the 980's $500. the card actually had no damage at all just an open box item. with DX12 my card is actually 600 points (3D mark api overhead test) above my friends 980 ti build which for the price is a huge performance per dollar difference. in DX11 he could crush me but in DX12 the tables have turned.

Be reminded that is only API overhead test. It did not count in shader performance. In pc perspective test an overclocked GTX960 was only about 5% slower than GTX980.

That is a huge concern as I am going to run 2 x 390 with one quadro 4000 for blender rendering.
