Too much thermal paste?

When installing the water block on my CPU I had a brain fart and forgot that it had thermal paste pre applied, and I also added a pea sized dot to the CPU. Should I take off the water block, clean the compound off and re apply? I have been running the PC this way for a few weeks now and haven't seen any issues. Your advice is appreciated.

I am using the i7-4790k. So far, after a few hours of gaming during each session, I haven't seen temps any higher than mid 30's. I think just to be on the overly cautious side I will clean off and re apply.

That temperature is probably after the game is closed, unless the games you play aren't demanding processor wise. Load should be closer to the 60-70 range.

Have you noticed any thermal paste leak out under the heatsink?

I would also go ahead and re paste it. Can probably drop your temp by a few degrees if for no other reason.

There is no leakage coming from the heatsink. As far as temps while I am running games I am not positive, I will have to check and report back.

Thanks! I am new to the whole custom PC world. What temps should I be concerned about? What is a safe temp range?
