My motherboard is MSI A78-E35 and as you can see in the picture it supports dual channel and up to 32gb of ram. CPU-Z says that there is 8GB of memory but that the computer is in single channel mode. Im not getting the full 8GB

What version operating system do you have installed? A Windows7 32-bit system, for example, will only recognize 3.something (this current system I'm on is only recognizing 3.4GB). A 64-bit system is needed to recognize/use more.

It is 64-Bit, see the first picture.

I tried both manually setting the value to the highest (8192) and also unticking the box and trying but neither worked.
Using asus strix gefroce gtx 960

always try to leave that box unchecked.

Ok so what you want to do is first check to see if you have the newest BIOS for your board, if not, go ahead and update. Then go into the BIOS and look for the onboard graphics under settings, make sure to disable anything related to it. Specifically there should be something about sharing memory with IGP.
