Hey, guys!

So I've recently upgraded my entire rig(except ram).
Ive pretty much had a roller coaster of confusion this past week.

Setup:
AMD FX-8350
16gb (4x4gb) RipJaw 1066hz(4 years old)
NVIDIA GTX 980
MSI 970 GAMING (upgraded from a ASROCK 990fx extreme3 this past week)
Corsair RM850 (Upgraded from a corsair 750 this past week)
R9 Radeon 240gb SSD
500GB HDD

To note, temperatures are near flawless. Very low on everything, airflow in my case is good.

So as of this past friday, I was playing games for around 3 hours and had a abrupt shut down, was not able to repower up my computer(tested a few things, came to the conclusion I needed a new psu), had it for 4 years, wouldnt suprise me. Went ahead and upgraded it. With the new power supply, things felt alot more smooth, increase in fps in some games. I was happy, till the sunday of maybe playing 5ish hours straight it happened again. Could not repower, seemed dead, returned the psu, got a new one. Resetup everything, got power but no display at all.

I searched around for a while through the internet, came up with a weird conclusion that my mobo was bad, so I went ahead and got the 970, budget upgrade. lol.

I came home today, set it all up, same issue. It finally dinged to me that I havent tested my RAM.
I went ahead and pulled out all but 1 stick, BOOM, I got display things were looking better. But being the person I am I went and tested all the sticks, got a display on all 4 alone. Then I tried 2, randomly didnt work. Tried another one (2 in) and it worked. Basically tried every combination and at random would or would not work. As of now im running all 4 sticks. No real issue but im feeling a performance issue in games. I notice a drop in consistant fps with different RAM combinations or without a stick. Is this possible? All in all im happy to have my pc running(been without for a couple days) but im thinking I should upgrade ram as well? This is more theory crafting, cause I truely wanna just understand this weird situation that happened. How I went from no display, cant start pc to using THE EXACT SAME THINGS shorty after and it running again.

I apologize for the huge story but without it I may get asked questions ive already asked my self and may have answered.

Also to add, should I return the 970 if its not the issue. I never felt like I had any issues with my ASRock 990fx extreme3

Are the sticks set up correctly? Are all the sticks out of a single package (came packaged as 4x4GB)? Try starting with 1 stick and set it to correct timings and CL, then set the DRAM voltage up + 0.06 over spec. Then go to the CPU/NB voltage and set it to 1.3, save exit, shutdown. Try adding a second stick, if OKshutdown and try a third, etc
