I have this system in mind:
MoBo: ASUS Maximus VII Hero LGA 1150 ACU (2nd model)
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws x DDR3 16 gb kit
GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980 ti
Storage: 1tb WD Blue HDD and 250gb Samsung 850 evo SSD
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower case
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master hyper 212 EVO

-Not looking to watercool any components
-Black and red color scheme
-I want a somewhat future proof PC
-Will run three displays: 1080p 144hz, 1080p 60hz, and 720p 60hz monitors.

Will not be building this PC anytime soon. I will build in sometime between April-November 2016

There's no such thing as "future proofing" in the PC world - the best thing to do to ensure system longevity is to always buy the latest chipset you can, or go for the high performance model. Some people may recommend X99 at this budget level, some people may recommend Z170. There's basically two ways you can go.

The first is the Z170 route:

And then the second is the X99 route (which I don't recommend but won't stop you if you want to run Oculus or high end 1440P/4K ) :
