Do I need to apply more thermal paste?

Hello,

I bought a Intel i7-4790k for my CPU, but I am using a different CPU Cooler, the Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO Cooler, which is much better than the default CPU Cooler. So, I was wondering if I needed to apply thermal paste? Or is there already thermal paste on the CPU and it is an okay amount?

CPU Cooler (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018&cm_re=noctua_heatsink-_-35-608-018-_-Product)

Thanks,

Brian

There is no preapplied thermal paste on the i7-4790K CPU. In fact, the only way to get preapplied thermal paste on your CPU is when you buy a prebuilt computer. You need to apply thermal paste. Squeeze out a line the size of an uncooked grain of rice onto the center of the CPU. When you install your CPU cooler, make sure you apply equal pressure all around onto the CPU with the cooler.

You should get a small amount of thermal compound with the Noctua cooler, which you will have to apply to your cpu before installing the cooler.
There will be no preapplied thermal compound on the cpu (that would be applied on the stock cooler).
