Wifi Problems on one PC, New Wireless Card Not Fixing

I'm experiencing normal download/upload speeds and normal ping, but I'm getting constant ping spikes, drops, and disconnects. My first thought was that it was my wireless card (TP-Link TL-WN951N), as nobody in the house experiences the same problem. I purchased a new USB wireless card (NetGear WNDA3100v3 N600) and the problem is still persisting, regardless of which wireless card I choose. I looked around forums and thought it could be a software problem such as AMD Quick Stream, but I seem to have no programs of the sort (as I know of). Any advice?

If wireless is working for the most part, I would suspect some sort of interference.

Any new appliances, construction, neighbors, etc. that could introduce interference? Do you live somewhere with multiple wireless networks? Maybe someone made a change there that is affecting the immediate physical area where your computer is located. Just enough to overlap you and not the other systems in the house.

Can you move the PC around a bit to see if problem is less frequent or continues to persist? Try a USB cable with the USB adapter to extend the reach and obtain a better signal.

You can also download a wireless network detector that will show you any surrounding networks, frequencies, channels, signal strengths, and so forth. Look for any that share your wireless network settings.

Eliminating those possiblities could then lean the issue towards software.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. The problem is definitely software related and it's what I was trying to hint towards in the question. It has nothing to do with location as nobody in my house has the problem, and the same exact wireless cards in another PC work perfectly. I'm familiar with inSSIDer Home, and have changed to the most ideal channel countless times. On both cards, I have full signal and get the normal ping & down/up for what I pay for. The disconnects are starting more frequently now. I've uninstalled all drivers for the cards and reinstalled one at a time, but the problem persists.

Have you tried a wired connection on the laptop to see if it the laptop suffers the same connection drops. I am with Ralston18 though, if your drivers are up to date and both cards work on other computers it strikes me that there must be some interference.

Try running your AV and Malwarebytes if you haven't already. At this point it seems worth a try.

I'm not able to try a wired connection as my PC is in a different room than the router. I'm down for trying anything, so if it sounds like interference I'll do what you think is best. I'm in a crowded neighborhood, so channels are a mess, but it doesn't seem to effect anyone else in my house. I'll run malwarebytes when I'm home tonight and see if there's any problems, but I've wiped my PC multiple times and have had this problem persist.

Yes. Makes good sense to run the AV and Malwarebytes to see if anything shows up. You can also look at the computer's and router's event log's to see if you can note any logged events that correspond with the problems you are seeing.

With the disconnects becoming more frequent that, to me, implies something is failing more and more. Either hardware on your end or somewhere else causing more interference and subsequent disconnects. Maybe some component getting hot and the resulting damage is making things progressively worse. Could be your computer directly or the impact is something your computer cannot handle per se.

As for the PC and router being in different rooms just get a long, known working ethernet cable for a temporary hook-up. Try it when there is no one around: e.g., the pets and kids are all out of the way etc.. I have a 100 foot cable I use for just such purposes - gets strung all over the place sometimes....
