I downloaded the new bios 1901 extracted the file and moved it to my USB drive. Every time I try to use the .CAP file under Tools and use the EZ Flash, it keeps saying my file is not a proper bios. Do I need to rename it? I tried other past bios updates and still getting the same message. I am using a 5820k cpu, 2 980ti's, 16gb Vengaence Corsair DDR4 Ram (2666 mhz) The USB drive is plugged into the USB flashback slot. Do I need to press the flashback button at all?

Solution
<< go to ASUS website, order BIOS chip for your board, It costs about 2$ so get 3 of them. Have them shipped. When they come, pull the BIOS chip out of the board. It comes out very easy. it is basically just laying in there. Install the new chip in its place. Make sure they do not send you an old chip! They make newer/updated BIOS chips. I know this because I have done this with an ASUS board. Flashing can be tricky

I've been trying to update my own new Asus X99 Pro 3.1 board, and have tried everything I can find that apparently fixes this 'Not a proper BIOS'.

I have tried renaming it to X99P and X99P31 as suggested on another forum.

I have tried all available BIOS files, all have the same error message.

I have tried multiple USB keys.

I have tried different partition formats on different keys.

Everything results with the same error message. The EZFlash in Windows says 'There is no reason to upgrade the environment' which is clearly false as the version that comes with the board is over 12 months old and there has been multiple updates since.

If you have 2 days to wait for a solution, here is what you can do: Call ASUS and tell them to send you a newer-updated bios CHIP. Yes the actual chip. This is where the BIOS resides. Once you have the new chip installed on your board, you can then threaten and punish the old chip for misbehaving and not following explicit instructions you had previously commanded it to carry out. My favorite punishment for chips is to immerse them in salt water. (they hate that) The chip is hella easy to remove and same for install. It is very very small item- about the size of a dime and costs like $2. You can have it shipped next day or what ever you like. This will solve all your problems. And you will avoid any dangerous updating like "BIOS FLASHING". BIOS flashing can get ugly real fast if something happens.:ouch:

This is exactly what I have been experiencing. I have tried almost everything from above and still getting the error. Arrrgh, it looks so easy to flash it but not so much for some peeps.

Thanks but this is the exact video I watched to help install the newest bios. I even tried to contact the guy that made the video but he didn't know what the problem was.

FIXED - Here is the solution for X99-PRO/USB 3.1 which is different then just the X99-PRO version of the board

- The Manual is totally wrong, it tells you to rename the file to "X99PU31.CAP" but i should be "X99PUB31.CAP"

Now the Update utility will say it is correct :)

I am assuming they did not change the manual from the X99-PRO when they released the USB3.1 Version.
Here is the Download for the 3.1 version of board.
