I bought a new SanDisk Ultra 240gb SSD, at the advice on annual yearly health check report, first of with the external usb case wouldn't find it on My Pc. Found in devices under USB storage no name, no size, contacted SanDisk who went into all the jargon long story short I want it eventually inside my Pc not external, so I then bought Sata to USB3 cable to clone my drive easy I thought, no says drive is to big so told it omit documents, pictures, music, videos, no joy still to big,, getting frustrated and thinking I'll send it back and buy a larger one? stumble across thread on here saying move/copy everything to another external drive delete everything except windows and programs hope that's correct? Try clone again? But my issue is I have just buying few month ago if that Western Digital Passport Ultra 1tb as I'd set up the back-up software was thinking ok its not going to let me click/drop or copy paste but it did saying would take a day or more transfer, Huh! I have two USB3 Front Ports seen the size of cable comes with Ultra less then two hand-spans, Ok here it is will using USB2 extension cable in USB3 front Pc ports slow transfer speed down? Is that we're I've gone wrong? do I need spend more money buying a newer USB3 extension cable or is it a myth? Please explain basically. I already own a Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200 320GB USB2.0 & 1.1. I think I may of cried if id of plugged that in..

Hey there, Emza35!

So you have issues with the transfer speed using your USB 3.0 ports, right?
If the issue is only present with the WD My Passport, then you should consider getting another USB 3.0 cable to try plugging the external drive with it. It is a lot faster than the 2.0, indeed, it's not a myth.
If the issue is with all the devices you connect to these ports, then you should check the computer manufacturer's website for USB 3.0 hub controller driver updates. ( https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff553572%28v=vs.85%29.aspx )
Have you attempted using a different computer with these external devices? I think you should give that one a try as well and see how the transfer rate will be in a different system.
If you are using the WD SmartWare software for backup, keep in mind that it only backs up your data, not the system files. Since you have issues with the SSD cloning process as well, maybe you should try using a different cloning software, too. Keep me posted with the troubleshooting steps you have attempted so far!

Hi thanks for you input SuperSoph but I walked into my local tech shop and he told me to get rid of the USB2 extension cable when using USB3 device as yes it does slow transfer down, so it's fathing about with that tiny cable or as suggested buy a new USB3 extension cable. I guess it could be worse and the ports were at the back of desktop
