After update (USB stick using EZ flash) can no longer set 'primary display' to PCI/PCIE (Sapphire R9 290x).

I am able to change it but when I reboot, primary display reverts to 'Auto'

I also did a fresh install of windows 10 with the media creation tool and a USB stick.

Is this a windows problem or possibly due to BIOS update? This supposed windows 10 fresh install 'simplicity' is not true. Now I feel like I may as well strip down my PC and rebuild. Very frustrating.

Please help. Many thnaks in advance!!

If you can't set something in the BIOS, it has nothing to do with Windows, the BIOS loads before windows.

Does your PC work in AUTO mode, if so, then it's detecting the video card and your good to go.

Why did you flash a new BIOS in the first place.

Hi getochkn, thank you for the replies.

I built the machine about a year ago and ever since and during the build there has always been issues using any of the features of the board. All my parts were bought due to their recommendation and compatibility on Asus's list for the z97-a. I have been through 3 sets of RAM with the machine to - couldnt enable XMP, still cant.

I thought updating the BIOS may improve the chances of being able utilize XMP, and the dual intelligent processor features. Still after BIOS nothing works in terms of a fix, i get BSOD if I try to alter anything in BIOS, e.g. try to enable 'optimal' performance. If I try to enable XMP, even if I use AI suite in windows. I spent a large amount of money on the machine and essentially all the OC parts are not OCable due to the board.

After a few weeks of the build I decided to take out the intel i54690K and check it with a microscope (i am a scientist) at work. This is the first time I had seen the new CPU 'pre bent pin' configuration and so I thought it was me who bent the pins, both on the board and on the cpu. I damaged them investigating the problem. I threw them away and bought new board and new CPU. I have the same problem, so we can probably suggest that it was not the board nor the CPU. I contacted Asus support several times. They were of no use.

Cant understand for the life of me why I cant utilise the boards features. The only thing I can think of is that it is because I have an AMD GPU (Sapphire R9 290x)

So in all i spent over 2 thousand pounds on my system and I ended up with something that essentially is no better than a PS4 for playing games.
