I'm basically trying to figure out what the most powerful tablet for gaming is currently or what will be in the near future. The surface pro 4 looks pretty good. Is there anything better? Are there any win tablets with tegra x1 technology?

There is a Google tablet powered by a Tegra X1. Windows for tablets is not ARM based, a big mistake especially as we are seeing ARM chips becoming much more capable in recent years. I believe the Surface Pro 4 has a discrete GPU option- in the keyboard section, though, so its basically a laptop at that point. You might be able to do a DIY job but you won't get anything thin or lightweight.

Microsoft got slated by nearly everyone for bringing to market an ARM tablet which I think was very unfair but they have listened to the feedback and seem to be dropping ARM tablets

The surface pro 4 will NOT have discrete graphics. But the surface book will have a NVidia GPU.

Windows x86 gaming tablets are very very rare. Only one has actually been designed exclusively for gaming, the Razer blade tablet which has been long gone by now.

Basically any x86 windows tablet that has Iris pro or HD 5000 or higher graphics is in my opinion worthy of more than ok gaming.

The Surface Pro 4 does not have a dedicated GPU at all.

On the other hand the more expensive Surface Book (detachable keyboard) does have an optional nVidia 940m (if I am not mistaken). The base model sells for $1,500. But the least expensive version with the dedicated GPU is $1,900.

All things considered, the price difference between the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book is not too bad. The Surface Pro 4 with the 6th gen Core i5, 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM is $1,300. Plus another $150 for the keyboard which brings the total to $1,450. As stated the least expensive Surface Book with the 940m is $1,900, but that price includes a higher quality keyboard which has a battery.

The problem with the Surface Book is that most of the battery is in the keyboard not in the tablet. While the Surface Book is claimed to last up to 12 hours... when separated from the keyboard the tablet part only has up to 3 hours of battery life.

I didnt even think of a laptop with detachable keyboard. The battery life worries me on the surface book but that could work as well. As long as the the screen isnt too big and it can run steam games at playable fps(willing to use low settings), it works for me. I really wouldnt want to go below 30fps but would tolerate 25, otherwise I'd rather wait. Wish valve would come out with a steam tablet.

The keyboard folds all the way back like a Yoga laptop so it is possible to use it like a tablet with the keyboard attached. But that would make it a fairly heavy tablet at 3.34lbs.

The weight is fine if i can find a kickstand for it. I just want it for work because there are several hours of downtime everyday and we arent allowed to have electronics but phones and tablets are tolerated. So I dont need much mobility.
