Motherboard Asus Z170 Pro Gaming compability with my old CPU

Hi guys, I'm buying components to renovate my PC and I'm not sure if I should change my old CPU or not. I've bought a fresh new MB Asus Z170 Pro Gaming (as foretold in the title). I'd like to ask if someone can tell me if my Intel Core i5-2500 3.30 GHz, even if 4-5 years old (don't remember the exact year), can be mounted on the new MB or if for any reason it's better if i buy a new one. I extend my gratitude for all those who'll give me an answer and i hope i didn't make a stupid question

Hi DeNunzio,

No, your old i5 will not fit the new Z170 motherboards. You'll need to buy a new 'skylake' CPU for that motherboard. Look for CPU's with a LGA 1151 socket type.

Ok glamdringfh, thx for the fast answer, I'd like to ask a last question then. Can you or anyone who reads suggest me some models? I can spend up to 280 Euros (more or less)

I'd recommend going with an Intel i5-6600K. This chip will cover just about anything you want to do with a rig (game, video processing, etc) and falls nicely within your price range.
