Using onboard graphics for second monitor with GPU enabled

Many people use their onboard graphics to power a second monitor but when I try it, the monitor displays no signal and is not detected by windows. I would plug it into my GPU but my current monitor is only DVI and the second is only VGA, I only have 1 DVI port on the graphics card.

I have enabled onboard graphics in the BIOS and I don't see any other settings regarding it, I've looked quite thoroughly but I can't work it out. A guy on TH in someone else's thread has managed it with my motherboard but didn't explain the details on how to get it to work. (Specs are in my sig)

Does anyone know what settings I'd need to change in order to force the onboard to stay on even with a GPU plugged in? The manual on the Gigabyte website shows all of the BIOS pages if that is of use to anyone.

If you need any more info just let me know, any help is appreciated,

Thanks :)

Solution

I managed to get it working today, I uninstalled the onboard graphics drivers and installed them while I was using the graphics card, instead of using the onboard while installing them.

Thanks for your reply, how do people manage to force onboard to stay activated though?
My GPU supports up to 4 monitors but I don't have anywhere to stick the VGA for the second monitor unfortunately.
