Problem Accessing SOME Websites

Hi

Quite a few websites I visit show as unavailable/unable to connect. The sites are online as have checked on another computer.

My latest example of a site I cannot access is wordpress.org HOWEVER I can access wordpress.com

However, if I install a browser Proxy plugin (FF - one click proxy) I can access the website. I don't want this to be a permanent solution as the connection is pretty slow and causes problems with other sites I regularly use

I have run Malwarebytes - no problems found. Done a full scan with AVG - no problems
Deleted and reinstalled with wifi driver
Removed all entries from hosts
Deleted hosts
Tried using a VPN program (hotspot shield)
Tried in IE, Firefox and Chrome INC safe modes
Tried connecting on different networks over 3 countries

But all to no avail

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate (SP1) 64 bit on a HP ProBook 6550b. All the browsers are latest versions

Date and time set right? Wrong date / time creates problems with https sites.

Hi

Have you tried connecting another PC/Laptop to same internet connection as your problem system

If not do so and see if they have same problem
Internet Modem Router may have been hacked or otherwise get wrong settings especially DNS servers

also look at website of your ISP for correct router settings

Thanks for the replies

1. Yeah, date/time correct
2. Happens on any router, must've experienced this on over 10 different networks. If I use someone elses machine the sites are fine. Also can access fine on my tablet

I have tried flushdns also

Use something like firebug in FF to drill down to the root cause / error.

Check your browsers have not somehow been configured to try and use a proxy. You should be able to check this on the browsers settings. What happens if you try to ping some of this troublesome sites?

Ping - I get a General Failure for the troublesome sites and others that are working reply as normal!
