High Performance CPU quick question

I'm currently researching info on cpus for future reference. I'd just like to know why Intel's high performance cpus Gen identifier shows previous generation codenames. For ex: the i7-5960X is Haswell and not broadwell?

Solution

I can't say 100% but my best guess would be they count the -E as the next gen even if it is based on the previous architecture. They also seem to come out around the same time but not always.

The model numbers seem to suggest the same as say for example

Ivy-bridge: 4XXX
Ivy-bridge-E: 49XX
Haswell: 4XXX
Haswell-E : 59XX
Broadwell: 5XXX

Why does Intel use the Gen Identifier 5 for this cpu, instead of 4. Is there a specific reason?
