I am currently looking for a GPU that I can upgrade to. currently I have an AMD HD Radeon 6800 series and I am looking for an upgrade for around Christmas time, my PSU is a 750w. Mostly I am looking for a GPU that I can run most game at almost max, or relatively high setting and something that I can also run games in the next few years decently well. The games that I am looking to run is Star Citizen, Ark Survival Evolved, Fallout 4, Tom Clancy Division, Arma 3, GTA 5 on higher settings. I have a budget of 500$ and under. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would not use that power supply to power my daughters Easy Bake Oven, never mind a gaming system with a good video card. There are no good reviews about it, but going by the price vs power, there is no way it can be anything but a timebomb.
Buying a power supply because it's cheap and has a nice big wattage number on the ad is about as safe as buying the cheapest brakes and tires you can find for your car.

I suggest you spend $100 of that 500 you can spend on a video card on a new power supply.

Then, assuming that the rest of the system is up to spec to run a high end video card (i5 CPU or equivalent, 8+ gig of RAM), then the 390 linked would be great.

The problem is your current power supply is very low quality , it is not safe for you or your PC to use that power supply with a high end GPU .

XFX has finest high quality PSU , so it's great to use it , also xfx 750 watt is enough to run any current single GPU on the market

If you are looking for gtx 970 range , go for either GTX 970 or R9 390 card , what ever is cheaper in your country , should get you near same performance (390 is slightly better)

Regardless of any GPU that you want to use, you need to get a quality PSU, your's is a fire hazard. The xfx PSU that ZENprime suggested is a great unit for its price, but 750W seems a bit way off, too much for a single card and too little for two, if you plan to use only one get a xfx 550W unit:

If you plan to do crossfire down the road, get a 850W unit.

Okay thanks everyone for their help I have a plan, I am either going to get the gtx 970 or the amd 9r 390 on cyber Monday depending on which is cheeper. Now 2 more questions, I have an amd phenom ii black edition cpu, and I know the gpu is over kill I plan in a few years to upgrade my cpu and motherboard, but would I be fine with that 550w psu or do I need stronger. Also last question I don't know the difference between the different gpu like msi 970 or asus 970, I like two suggestions, one I can buy now and I've that cost a bit more but might go on sale by them. I know I am asking a lot but I really don't know whats the difference I found a msi 970 for 312$ and one for 600$ I don't know the difference. And thanks for all of your guys help and also thanks for the warning about my psu I will change it as soon as I get the money.

with 750W power supply, you can easily work with most of single card configs. and regarding different brands carrying GTX 970, they are mostly the same but with differences to cooling, back plate and little higher clock. You will be better with which one is cheaper and which has has good warranty system.
