Modem -- Changes the signal and type cable carrying network traffic. Cable modem converts ethernet traffic to an RF signal and uses coax to connect.
Router -- sends traffic based on IP layer (or higher in TCP stack) to a specific destination.
Switch -- Connects one ethernet port to another one without impacting all the other ports. Full duplex capable device
Hub -- Connects one ethernet port to all other ports. Half duplex device.
